Technical Operations · Systems & Automation · Internal Tools

I build the tools behind the curtain.

Support and infrastructure background, now focused on practical automation, integrations and internal systems that remove repetitive work and make problems easier to diagnose.

I enjoy being handed a vague operational annoyance, tracing how the systems actually behave, and building the smallest useful thing that makes the workflow better.

How I work

My background is support, so I tend to approach software from the point of view of the person who has to understand and fix it later. I care about useful diagnostics, sensible boundaries, recoverable failure modes and tools people can actually operate.

Start with the real workflow

Understand what people are doing now, where the friction is, what data already exists and whether code is actually the right answer.

Build for diagnosis

Logs, health checks, clear errors and understandable state matter because a tool is only useful if somebody can work out why it failed.

Automate repetitive friction

I particularly enjoy replacing manual checks, copy-paste procedures and recurring support work with small services, scripts or dashboards.

Use AI as an accelerator

I use AI coding assistance for research, prototyping, code review and debugging, while validating, adapting and maintaining the resulting code.

Selected projects

Independent projects built around problems I wanted to solve, systems I wanted to understand, or workflows I wanted to make easier.

Sugar

Platform / integrations

A game-hosting integration platform connecting Discord, hosting-provider controls and billing lifecycle. The current design includes a Fastify API, PostgreSQL/Prisma, provider abstractions, WHMCS webhook processing and a Discord bot.

Riot Data Platform

Data / operations

A self-hosted Python collection and warehouse pipeline for Riot match data, with asynchronous crawling, API rate-limit handling, persistent crawl state, compressed raw archives, DuckDB storage and JSON exports for downstream tools.

Beanzdroid

Automation / community tooling

An organically grown Discord/Twitch automation system covering live-state integration, commands, music requests, moderation/community utilities and external-service integrations. Current work is focused on modularity, persistence and reliability.

Optimisation

A Python tool for balancing ten players in League of Legends custom games. It considers each player's competitive skill level, preferred positions, positions they are less comfortable playing, champion flexibility and suitability for each position. It compares possible team and position assignments and explains the trade-offs behind the resulting split.

Experience

Support and infrastructure work is the foundation of how I approach engineering: understand the symptom, trace the system, fix the root cause where practical, and leave the next investigation easier than the last.

Support Representative

MCProHosting / Nitrado

Supported game-server customers and partners across technical, configuration and billing issues. Worked with GitLab, Jira, Confluence and Slack; handled complex server setups, diagnostics, PayPal/Stripe billing workflows, and contributed to deployment-tool and webhook-related work.

Nov 2018 - Apr 2019

Technical Support Engineer

Pingperfect

Provided ticket and live-chat support for hosted game servers, including server setup, monitoring, backups, MySQL configuration, troubleshooting and knowledge-base documentation.

Oct 2017 - Nov 2018

IT Technician

Bartley Green School

Supported staff and school IT systems with hardware repair, imaging, Citrix troubleshooting, Linux deployment, purchasing/stock, website updates and internal documentation.

Dec 2015 - Nov 2017

Apprentice Repair Centre Technician

SCC

Hardware diagnostics, repair and quality control in a commercial repair centre, including SLA/RMA handling, field-engineer liaison, warehousing processes, soldering and electrical repair work.

Technical toolkit

I am a generalist rather than a specialist in every item below. The strongest overlap is Linux, troubleshooting, automation, APIs/integrations and building small-to-medium systems end to end.

Programming

Python · TypeScript / JavaScript · SQL · Bash · PowerShell familiarity · HTML/CSS · React/Vite project use

Systems

Linux · Docker · Nginx · systemd · Pterodactyl · Windows · networking fundamentals · self-hosted services

Data

PostgreSQL · MySQL · SQLite · DuckDB · JSON · data collection/export pipelines · basic reporting

Integration

REST APIs · webhooks · OAuth/API tokens · Discord/Twitch/Riot APIs · provider integrations · Git/GitHub

Earlier certifications/training include CompTIA Network+ (2016), CompTIA A+ 220-801 exam, HP Certified Repair Technician and Xerox Certified Repair Technician.

I like being the person someone can come to with “this is annoying - can we make it easier?” and turning that into something useful behind the scenes.
